Shakeup at Fox TV Has ‘Most Powerful Person in Cable’ Leaving Company

A major reorganization of Rupert Murdoch’s TV empire is in the works, according to the L.A. Times, as Fox Networks Group Chief Executive Tony Vinciquerra–who was named the most powerful person in cable for 2010 by the publication Cablefax–is leaving the company.

Vinciquerra’s departure follows a year that was marked by tough retransmission disputes with cable providers, in which Vinciquerra, 55, played a key role and succeeded in generating fee increases for the Fox networks, the story says. The executive reportedly told News Corp. Chief Operating Officer Chase Carey as long ago as last summer that he was planning to leave before his contract was up.

With Vinciquerra’s exit, Carey is expected to streamline management of the TV group. David Haslingden, who heads up the Fox International Channels, will become chief operating officer of Fox Networks Group, assuming a number of Vinciquerra’s duties and reporting to Carey.
