‘Sunday Night Football’ Season Finale Gives NBC a Ratings Win

Despite a less than stellar season-ending NFL matchup on "Sunday Night Football," NBC easily won the night in both total viewers and the key adults 18-49 demo, according to TVbytheNumbers.com.

NBC finished Sunday night with a 5.1 average overall rating in adults 18-49, ahead of Fox (3.4 average), ABC (2.7) and CBS (2.4). In total viewers, NBC averaged 14.3 million, beating CBS (11.3 million), ABC (9.4 million) and Fox (8.6 million).

At 7 p.m. football was king on Fox and CBS with the overrun from late-afternoon games. Fox scored a 6.7 rating in 18-49 in the first half-hour, followed by a 3.6 for the postgame show “The OT.” CBS averaged a 3.4 in the first half-hour for a combination of the NFL overrun and “60 Minutes,” which earned a 2.0 in the second half-hour. NBC’s “Football Night in America” pregame collected an average rating of 3.35 in the 18-49 for the hour. ABC’s "America’s Funniest Home Videos" had a 2.1 in the 18-49 demo for the hour.

At 8 p.m. NBC’s game kicked off with a 5.75 in the 18-49 demo for the hour, while ABC’s "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" netted a 2.7 in the 18-49 demo. CBS’s "CSI: Miami"/’60 Minutes" combo averaged a 2.1 in the 18-49 demographic for the hour.

The 9 p.m. hour was dominated by the NBC game, with a 5.55 average for the hour in the 18-49 demo. ABC’s "Desperate Housewives" logged a 3.8 in the 18-49 demo for the hour, while CBS’s staggered schedule had "CSI: Miami"/"Undercover Boss" averaging a 2.9 in the 18-49 for the hour.

At 10 p.m. NBC’s coverage of the Seahawks vs. the Rams ended the night with a 5.75 average in the 18-49 demographic for the hour, while ABC’s "Brothers & Sisters" collected a mean score of 2.4 in the 18-49 demo for the hour. The last of "Undercover Boss" on CBS combined with the start of a repeat of “CSI: Miami” for a 2.4 rating in the 18-49 demo.
