Lottery Players Cash In With Hurley’s Unlucky Numbers From ‘Lost’

The winning numbers in Tuesday’s $355 million Mega Millions lottery bore a close resemblance to the numbers that haunted a character in the TV show “Lost,” People magazine reports.

In the show, Hugo "Hurley" Reyes won a $114 million lottery with the numbers 4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42.

Four of the six numbers drawn Tuesday night matched those. The Mega Millions numbers were 4, 8, 15, 25, 47 and 42, with 42 being the Mega Ball number. Anyone who played Hurley’s numbers won about $150.

Hurley, played by Jorge Garcia, was haunted throughout the series by the numbers, which appeared in various contexts before the producers eventually revealed their meaning near the end of the show’s run, the story says.

The report adds: “The coincidence wasn’t lost on Damon Lindelof, one of the hit show’s creators, who Tweeted Wednesday that ‘9,078 people played Hurley’s numbers in the MegaMillions tonight, each winning $150.’"

  1. There were 25,587 tickets purchased nationwide with the LOST numbers, and that many winners for the prize level. This is 8,940 more winnners than statistically expected. Over the past several years, the LOST numbers have ranked as the most popular number played in lotto games with the available numbers in the drum.
