A line of toys that sparked a craze in the 1980s may be headed to television in an animated special, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Appalachian Artworks sold the TV rights to the line of dolls the Cabbage Patch Kids to Galen Walker, a producer working on a live-action "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" feature film for Paramount, and CWA Carlin West Agency, the story says.

A script is being worked on for an animated TV special starring the dolls, which became a craze in 1983 and were featured on the cover of Newsweek magazine.

ABC aired a special in 1985 called "The Cabbage Patch Kids Christmas Special," which pulled high ratings, the story adds.
