One of the icons of 1960s television–an actress who also has had a successful film career, winning an Oscar in 1963–will join Lifetime’s new series "The Protector," reports TVLine.com.

Patty Duke, who starred in the 1960s hit comedy "The Patty Duke Show" and won an Oscar for “The Miracle Worker,” has been cast as the mother of the title character, a homicide detective played by Ally Walker, the story says.

The show debuted to 1.9 million viewers on Sunday, which the Hollywood Reporter calls "a slow start."

Duke, who also has won three Emmys, will begin her role in the show’s seventh episode.
