Tension Behind the Scenes at CBS’s ‘The Talk’: Two Co-Hosts Expected to Leave, and It’s Apparently Because of One Co-Host’s ‘Queen Bee Attitude’

Aug 16, 2011  •  Post A Comment

Cast changes are expected at CBS’s “The Talk,” and the trouble can be traced to a “queen bee attitude” on the part of one of the co-hosts, according to a report by the New York Post.

Holly Robinson Peete revealed last week that she will not be back on the show for its second season, the story notes. Now word has surfaced that Leah Remini also plans to quit, and this comes after Sharon Osbourne recently announced that she’s taking a break from the show.

A separate report, in Deadline.com, says the options of Robinson Peete and Remini have not been picked up, and they are not expected to be in the lineup when season two premieres Sept. 6.

Deadline says the show has picked up the options of co-hosts Osbourne, Sara Gilbert and Julie Chen, although Osbourne will be taking some time off in the fall to be with her husband.

The departures of Remini and Peete come as the women allegedly were fed up with Chen’s "queen bee attitude," according to the New York Post story.

Chen, who is married to CBS President Leslie Moonves, allegedly told the women they weren’t allowed to talk about Casey Anthony without her because she’s the only co-host with a background in journalism, the story says.

Another source said the friction was caused by Remini, calling her “a disruptive force” and describing Chen as “the glue that holds the show together.”

  1. I hope CBS is keeping their option with Pyramid open…if TBS doesn’t pick it up first. Having half your cast turn over after the first season is NOT a good omen.

  2. julie chen is a pompous blow hard. It;s amazing what she thinks of herself. The other hosts are down to earth while her husband and child are soo perfect. She seems to forget that she went out with a married man for years. I’m no judge or better than anybody but with a past like that, I would keep my mouth shut.

    • Guess the POMPOUS BLOW HARD isn’t going to be BLOWING SO HARD anymore! She’s hosting Celebrity Big Brother & it’s rumored that after next summer’s edition of Big Brother the show is retiring & The BLOW HARD won’t have a job at all. I doubt many networks will be clamouring to sign her to any show or news program. Her & her Sexually Morbid Mate can fade away & in time people will say Julie Who? Never heard of her!

  3. I WILL NOT BE WATCHING THE TALK ANYMORE.THE ONLY REASON I WATCHED WAS BECAUSE OF LEAH, AND HOLLY THE REST OF THEM ARE NOT MY CUP OF TEA, ESPECIALLY JULIE. THATS WHAT HAPPEN WHEN YOUR HUSBAND IS THE BOSS.festa

  4. What???? Holly and Leah totally made the show. I really don’t see this show lasting. I love Sharon and Sara is a doll. I wish them the best. But I can’t see myself watching anymore. A crying shame.

  5. I was shocked the other day to tune in and find no Leah and Holly. I am NOT an avid TV watcher, but found this show to be surprisingly upbeat and refreshing when Julie Chen was gone. Now Sara Gilbert looks wounded and it’s flat. Should’a jetted Julie folks, show would’ve lasted longer…

  6. I must admit I didn’t watch every day but enjoyed what looked like good chemistry and fun, with good conversation. But I Must say won’t watch anymore because the best have left, Julie acts like a stuck up nerd, never quite made anything but a yawn. Sharon is good too but she won’t take any crap either. Best thing could happen is the axed castmates and Sharon make their own show, Julie won’t survive.

  8. A year ago – Septemeber 17, 2010 – As the World Turns aired its final episode to make way for The Talk. Winner of many Emmy Awards, As the World Turns was on CBS for 54 YEARS, launching the careers of many prominent actors and attracting generations of loyal viewers. The Talk, on the other hand, has aired on CBS for less than 54 WEEKS, and it is imploding.
Let’s be perfectly honest – the Julie Chen/Les Moonves connection is the only reason this show is still on. I no longer watch anything on CBS – daytime or primetime.

  9. It is a shame that we do not celebrate
down to earth people anymore. That is why
the show was refreshing to watch. Because
of all the personalities. I wasn’t to fond
of Julie but I could tolerate her because
of the other cast members. The two host
that are no longer there were the backbone
of the show. I will no longer watch your
show. I don’t care who you replace them
    with!

  10. Watched the show for quite some time and disappointed of the changes. I hope they (CBS) can straighten out the problems and bring them all back together again.

  11. I miss Leah and Holly I think that the mix was wonderful. all the woman are different but yet complimented eachother.I believe you need friends that think differently so that you can look at all sides of situations.

  12. I was shocked to see the cast had changed and then it was never mentioned why! I watched a few episodes but it was not funny and the chemistry just wasn’t there anymore. I deleted it from from my DVR. I think you guys made a BIG mistake. I predict, “The Talk” will be history soon.

  13. Really disappointed. I liked the Talk as it was originally cast. The absence of Holly and Leah is disappointing. Can’t determine whether or not Sharon Osbourne was let go, or decided to take a break.
I like Sara and Julie …. AS PART OF THE ORIGINAL CAST.
Can’t imagine who would have thought Kris Jenner has anything to offer such a show. Sheryl is not a good fit either.
There simply is no good reason to watch The Talk any longer. These bad decisions will likely be the downfall of the show.

  14. I can’t believe the cast has changed. It was a good fit. I was shocked to see the change. I like Kris Jenner but Cheryl needs to go she is so getto and not really funny. The show is just not the same. I guess its good to have your husband be the boss. It also is not fair to fans not to explain why Holly and Leah are not on anymore. I’m sure if I will keep watching.

  15. Sooo disappointed…loved Leah and Holly and didn’t mind Julie as a balance for the others. But without the awesome real-ness of those 2, no chemistry. Thought it was temporary but guess not…bummer as I loved the show. Erased from my DVR now too.

  16. I really miss Leah and Holly, they were hysterical. Is there no chance they can return? Kris Jenner is beyond annoying. Seriously, she tries so hard that she is turning me off from not only The Talk but from anything Kardashian. Cheryl is comic relief, and the guest host joining this week, (Aisha?) is pretty solid. I say KEEP her.

  17. I liked this show–key work is “liked” past tense! I really like Leah-she just brought something special to the show. I find it rather boring now! Please, go and beg her to come back!!!

  18. the show has lost everything they had going for it ,now its just ho hum , it used to be fun and exciting ,chan just made it into a news program ,it used to be a show we could relate to …..bad choice i know longer feel the need to watch ,where i never wanted to miss it ,it was spicy ,not any more ,its a joke !!!!!!

  19. the show has lost everything they had going for it ,now its just ho hum , it used to be fun and exciting ,chan just made it into a news program ,it used to be a show we could relate to …..bad choice i know longer feel the need to watch ,where i never wanted to miss it ,it was spicy ,not any more ,its a joke !!!!!!

  20. I am disappointed that both Leah and Holly are no longer a part of “The Talk”. They were my favorites. Sharon is awesome and Sara is a sweetie. Julie should leave the ego at home and focus on chemistry and content which makes any show a hit! Hey Julie – GET OVER YOURSELF!!!

  21. YUK Julie and Jenner! I tune in every other day- just for a moment…I repeat….YUK.. Sooooooooooooo Bad.. It was a good idea with the first bunch of ladies…..WHOEVER thought it would work w/ Julie and the afful guests??

  22. YUK Julie and Jenner! I tune in every other day- just for a moment…I repeat….YUK.. Sooooooooooooo Bad.. It was a good idea with the first bunch of ladies…..WHOEVER thought it would work w/ Julie and the afful guests??

  23. Holly was the most intelligent and witty member of the group on “the talk”. Too bad she is gone. I won’t be watching any more, though I was a daily fan. Julie is smart, but haughty…Sharon is great and is better with foils (Sara does a good job). Jenner gets a 0.00-too much mirror.

  24. I have to say I’m not surprised..Holly just didn’t fit in a talk show, and Leah was in my opinion a bit too unprofessional for this type of program. Funny yes, but a bit unfinished if that be the description.

  25. I agree…The Talk is not really worth watching anymore without Leah and Holly…they made the show fun! I like Sarah and Sharon bc she can even shut Julie up once in a while…she won’t take her crap and Julie seems to respect her when she respects no one else which is why I can’t stand Julie. Don’t think this show is going to survive too long without the original cast. And Kris Jenner… who’s bright idea was that? Julie needs to lose the attitude and quit thinking this is “her” show .

  26. I was off work today and tuned in to see two new guest hosts on The Talk. When Julie Chen was hosting the first Big Brother, I didn’t care for her uppity attitude and I thought she was pompous. Then when the Talk Show came on she seemed so down to earth and fun. I looked today and could hardly recognize who was there. I had to get on line and do some research to find out what happened to my girls. The loss of Holly smacked of racism. The loss of Leah was too much. I wish I could tell them how sorry I will be to see them leave. It was a slap in the face to me as a once loyal viewer. Honestly, can’t anyone do any hiring without using their relatives and engaging in nepotism? If Julie is so great, why not just give her her own show? Let her wing it alone . Deuces Talk!!

  27. I find it ridiculous that Leah and Holly have left the show. They were my favorites, along with Sharon. They are the 3 that brought great fun and personality to the show. I used to look forward to watching everyday and now I no longer care about watching The Talk at all. I expect to see the ratings drop drasticly. Needless to say, I am very disappointed.

  28. I agree about holly and Leah. I miss them. Half the time I can’t under stand what Cheryl is saying, she sounds like she has a mouth full of rocks.

  29. If I ever had the tiniest bit of doubt about Julie being a NERD, IT WAS CERTAINLY CONFIRMED THE DAY THAT Julie showed how she buys knee high hosiery and cuts off the toes end so she can slip on the toe end whenever she wears open shoes because she doesn’t feel naked. WEIRDO!!!!!

  30. The show sucks without Holly and Leah. Will not watch anymore.

  31. Tuned in a few days consecutive days and saw new ladies, to my disappointment I looked online to see Holly and Leah replaced permanently. They were my favorite characters and brought realism to the show. I will watch the good ole TBS reruns instead.

  32. Good morning Ladies i am 50 year old woman all my guy fun of me i work nights
but the alarm goes off at 145 est just want to say you put the view to shame
    YOU GO GIRLS!!!!!!!!!!
    Your friend
    Dave

  33. Is it just me, or isn’t the fact that Julie Chen is even working as a journalist/talk host/reality show host on CBS a conflict of interest being that her husband is the network president??? I mean, think about what it must be like working with her…walking on eggshells everyday. Praying that you don’t even breathe wrong or she’ll go to her husband and have you fired. That is just rediculous. Maybe they weren’t together before she started at CBS? I don’t know of they were or weren’t. Either way, she should step down from employment with CBS simply because of who her husband is.

  34. Sheryl Underwood as a new cast member of “The Talk” will keep the show strong in its ratings. Just getting to know Sheryl other than an adult material comedian. She is funny, drown to earth and sensible with intensity, passion & integrity. Love this side of her.

  35. I too am VERY disappointed with the cast changes at The Talk. I set my DVR to record the series and I still have a lot of shows from the first season. After my initial shock and awe, I did a comparison of then and now since I’m a fair person. But I have to say that I am SORELY disappointed with the new format. I do like Cheryl Underwood but I think that the BEST HOSTS were Leah & Holly. With them in the mix, the show was innovative, funny and fresh. I gave up The View to watch The Talk; I’m going back to The View. I think what’s really behind their departure is the fact that they had real moral character and a strong family life. Now the show seems to propagate homosexuality and other immoral behavior and if someone speaks against it, they are met with opposition. There used to be fair, across the board, intelligent discussions of all points of view; it now seems that immorality has won out yet again. I love Julie and Sharon but Sarah leaves MUCH to be desired. She is so happy talking about her lifestyle now and is just shoving it down our throats. It’s a shame because this show started out with a bang and has now become a dud. Oh, well, more free space to record The View on my DVR!! LEAH & HOLLY, I LOVE YOU AND I’M SORRY YOU ARE GONE. You ARE the best!! CBS owes you and all of the viewers an apology!!

  36. I had wtched the show from the beginning, for the last five months i have been working and had not watched the show.. today I view a facebook post and see some new ladys on the show.. I am very disapointed to hear that holly and leah are gone. I loved the street spin that leah put on things, and holly with her very real person perspective, example holly shared with the world that her son has audtissum. I am very sad that my two very cute and sexy host are not on any more..
I have no reason to record the shows anymore….
HOLLY & LEAH … I love you two… xxx ooo
    Rudy

  37. What a shame that Leah and Holly are gone!! They were truly the reason i tuned in…especially Leah. She brought a little realism to the table and would say things that most of us would think in our head. She always gave me a little chuckle especially when i needed it. I wish Leah and Holly the best in the future and maybe they can collaborate for their own show. Good luck ladies…i have to say the show is definately not on my list of things to watch anymore…without these two ladies it’s rather blah!!!

  38. I am VERY disappointed in the shows line up. I will never watch it again. Leah and Holly made the show.

  39. I don’t like Sheryl Underwood. She is very getto and difficult to understand. She talks too fast and has too many comments. Bring Leah back. Sheryl seems like she would sleep with the first man that asked her. Not fun watching it anymore.

  40. Glad to see Leah and Holly go. Didn’t like Leah from King of Queens, she’s obnoxious and loud. Holly just didn’t belong on a talk show. They didn’t do much better in the replacements tho. Why is it necessary to have a loud, bad mouth person on his show? Sharon needs to go and I would be happy with Julie and Sarah and maybe one other person. Julie is very professional and ppl are just jealous. I quit watching it in the first season and tuned in today to see what had been going on. Still don’t like the show and will be surprised if it continues on. Too many talk shows and reality shows anyway 🙂

  41. I will no longer be watching the show either.Leah and Holly were awesome and now the only 1 left on there to enjoy is Sharon.Nothing against the 2new host but i started watching it from day 1 and now it’s just not the same.

  42. I will no longer be watching the show either.Leah and Holly were awesome and now the only 1 left on there to enjoy is Sharon.Nothing against the 2new host but i started watching it from day 1 and now it’s just not the same.

  43. I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU! I DIDN’T START WATCHING THE SHOW UNTIL MAY OR JUNE OF 2011. BUT FROM THE VERY FIRST SHOW, I DID NOT LIKE julie chen. I THINK SHE’S ARROGANT AND DOES NOT DISPLAY LEADERSHIP SKILLS. I GUESS CHERYL WILL BE BOOTED NEXT, BECAUSE SHE’S NOT A PUNK! YOU ALREADY SEE THE ANGER MOUNTING FROM JULIE WHEN AROUND CHERYL. SHE HAS ATTENTION ISSUES. IT IS NOT ABOUT HER!!!!

  45. Sheryl and Ayisha HAVE GOT TO GO! Sheryl is extremely Ghetto and talks WAY, WAY TOO MUCH, She is impossible to understand and she thinks she is so funny and thinks everyone is just dying to listen to her. Forget it! She is a big mouth with air diarrhea of the mouth. Never knows when to shut up. SHE IS TOTALLY DISRUPTIVE TO THE FLOW OF THE SHOW. SHE’S NOT FUNNY!!! Ayisha THINKS SHE IS A PRINCESS. SHE’S ARROGANT AND HAS A BIG MOUTH AND ALWAYS HAS TO TALK FIRST AND GOES ON FOREVER. SHE NEEDS TO JUST SHUT HER MOUTH. SHE IS ANNOYING AS HELL!!!!! She is a real “Know it-all”! I think Julie is highly professional and is a great leader on the show. I miss Sharon when she’s not there and I like Sara too but she needs to improve her wardrobe. She obviously can’t walk in heels so give her an alternative….please.
Why must your guest waste time kissing each of you hello? Sheryl and Ayisha already waste too much of the shows time. Talk more about the hot topics but kick sherylnand Ayisha off first!!! Oh and I never liked Leah! She was always SO unprofessional and just had to stel the pot light in everything…..jut lie Sheryl and Ayisha. I’m also lad Holly is gone. She was nnoying too. Leah thought for some reason everyone just loved her. Well not fom what I hear. She was truly hyper and very loud and just had to be in the center of it all……..childish.

  46. I’m wondering who all these people are showing support for Leah. I’ve started watching the show again now that she is gone.I think after a few shows everyone realized that was a big mistake. Hopefully all the viewers she cost have come back. How about Hillary Duff? Young Mom, Singer, Actress, Sports wife?

  47. I don’t want to watch a show where an overly obese host is celebrated. We need to look up to people who are an example of a healthy lifestyle. Where is Sharon?

  48. Holly & Leah made the show although I love Sara, then Sheryl

  49. Where the hell they are going with Carrie Ann she is awful stay in your lane, and Eve needs to.take the powder make of her face she is not that light. Trying to be all of that, just because he is a millionaire he can’t remove all of those tattoos and her ghetto side.
Sherl Underwood and Sharon Osborne make the show they are AWESOME!!!

I never knew Julie Chen was a ‘blow hard’.

Ever since her husband ‘ Leslie Moonves’
    was acccused of sexual allegations
that was the reason ‘ Julie Chen ‘ had left
    The Talk last year.

I’m not sure if she believes any of the sexual
    allegations against her husband .

    Being a ‘ blow hard ‘ , probably doesn’t believe a word of it.

It will be good when ‘ Big Brothers ‘ is
retiring ., Its just people ‘ bickering’ all the
time and they can’t live together
they don’t know each other well enough.

The Celebrity Big Brothers prove to be just as bad , not a hit reality show.

Julie Chen betther hang up ypur skates hon,
get a job in journalism instead its more
    suited .

    I’m getting real tired of ‘ Survivor ‘ , I never
did like Jeff Probst or the show .
Jeff was always a pompous blow hard ,
    he’ s a dirt bag .
