‘Terra Nova’ Gets Just What It Needed: a Surge in Viewers

Fox’s “Terra Nova” had a big night in Monday’s Nielsen overnights, but CBS coasted to a solid win for the night in the key demo of adults 18-49, TVbytheNumbers.com reports.

“Terra Nova” was up 24% from a week ago in 18-49, with a 2.6 average rating. Fox’s “House” was also up, notching a 2.7 rating, up 8%.

“Terra Nova” was also up 17% in total viewers to 7.6 million. Entertainment Weekly notes that the show had its highest rating to date in male teens with a 2.7 average. The pricey rookie show’s chance for a second season has yet to be determined, the story notes, with a decision expected around upfronts in May.

CBS’s “Hawaii Five-0” held its ground Monday night with a 3.0 average rating, while the network’s comedy lineup rose: “Mike & Molly” (4.2) was up 14%, “Two and a Half Men” rose 9% (winning the night with a 5.1 average rating) and “How I Met Your Mother” (4.4 average) and “2 Broke Girls” (4.5) both climbed 5%.

CBS wound up with a 4.0 average rating for prime time in the 18-49 demo, better than ABC (3.1 average), Fox (2.7), Univision (1.3) and NBC (1.3). ABC came out on top in total viewers with an average of 15.8 million, topping CBS (11.4 million), Fox (7.6 million), NBC (4.0 million) and Univision (3.2 million).

On ABC, “Dancing With the Stars” had a big night, surging 18% to a 3.3, while “Castle” was off 7% with a 2.5.
