Anonymous Fox News Channel Employee Surfaces on Website as a ‘Mole’

An anonymous Fox News Channel employee has been hired by the news and gossip website Gawker as a mole, with Gawker explaining that the Fox insider “will be providing Gawker with regular dispatches from inside the organization."

The "Fox mole" is unusual as employees "very rarely speak out of turn at Fox News — proof, people close to the network say, of discipline and intense loyalty to the network and its chief, Roger Ailes," notes The New York Times’ Media Decoder.

The Gawker post by the unidentified Fox News employee includes a video of Mitt Romney and Sean Hannity speaking before they taped an interview in February, with Romney praising horseback riding and the qualities of certain horses.

"Now there’s nothing wrong with Mitt and his wife loving horseback riding. But remember this video next time Romney attacks Obama for golfing. The inherent elitism and snootiness of golf is NOTHING compared to competitive horseback riding," the unidentified Fox News staffer wrote.

Explaining why he or she had decided to work for Gawker as well, the employee wrote about Fox Nation’s take on President Obama’s 50th birthday party, which included the headline, "Obama’s Hip Hop BBQ Didn’t Create Jobs," according to the Gawker post.

"The post neatly summed up everything that had been troubling me about my employer: Non sequitur, ad hominem attacks on the president; gleeful race baiting; a willful disregard for facts; and so on," the mole wrote. "It was so galvanizing, and on top of so many other little incidents, that I guess it just finally pushed me over the edge."

  1. Such BS. ANY website can say they have an anonymous blogger in Fox News or CNN or wherever and then print whatever they think will attract readers. Bottom line for ANY of these “news” organizations is eyeballs. Then translates to ad dollars. Right, left or in between it’s always about the money. Show me the way to make money and we’ll do it.

  2. I thought this at first as well, but then how can you explain the footage that was shot from inside the company?

  3. First, I hope this “mole” is found and their employment terminated as soon as possible; I can’t imagine it would be too difficult.
Second, I wonder if Gawker would be as welcoming to say an “MSNBC” mole upset at their ad hominem attacks on anyone to the right of Bill Clinton.

  4. So Romney likes horse riding. So what. He is a gazillion-aire and he can afford it. Think of all of the jobs that he is creating in the horse riding community. All of those grooms and stablehands and manure shovellers are making a ton of money from his equine outings.
A lot of Fox News viewers live in Kentucky. Good horse country. We love Romney. He loves horses. Better than the Obama guy. He loves Chicago. What does he know about horse riding.
I bet he can’t even afford to keep a stable full of horses. Who wants a poor guy in the Whitehouse anyhow? The rich people deserve all of the money they make. They should run the country and us normal folks should just shut up and pay their taxes for them.
After all, isn’t that why we love it when the Republicans win the Whitehouse.
Let’s exempt rich people from paying any taxes. Think of all the horses that they could buy.
I predict a lot of jobs in the horse manure recycling business, when Romney is elected as the next president of the United States.

  5. Kudos to Fox for working so quickly.
