NBC’s ‘The Voice’ Sinks to a New Low — and Yet, NBC Wins the Night

NBC’s singing competition “The Voice” continues to see ratings erosion after getting off to a good start. The Monday night installment slipped 10% from last week in the Nielsen overnights, sinking to the lowest number yet for a performance episode of the series, a 3.6 average in the key 18-49 demo, TVbytheNumbers.com reports.

But that number for the two-hour program was still enough to beat the broadcast competition for the overall win in prime time on a night when ratings were generally soft across the board.

NBC averaged a 3.1 rating for the night in viewers 18-49, topping CBS (2.7), ABC (2.6) and Fox (2.0). It was a different story in total viewers, with ABC trouncing the competition by averaging 14.7 million to 8.6 million for NBC, 8.1 million for CBS and 6.3 million for Fox.

ABC’s strength was mainly attributable to a two-hour “Dancing with the Stars,” which average a modest 2.8 in the 18-49 demo — down two-tenths of a ratings point from last week and a series low for a performance episode — but pulled in 16.3 million total viewers, easily the biggest audience of the night.

CBS’s “Two and a Half Men” got the night’s best number in 18-49, rising slightly to a 3.7 average rating. Elsewhere on the network the news was mostly bad, as “How I Met Your Mother” dropped by a hefty half a ratings point to a season-low 3.0, “2 Broke Girls” was off two-tenths to a series-low 3.3 and “Mike & Molly” matched its season low with a 3.1.

Fox also had a season low — a 2.1 average rating for “Bones” in viewers 18-49 — while “House” broke the trend by rising one-tenth of a point to a 2.0.

  1. I said it from the start wait till Dancing with the stars starts NBC will be done!! they will never have a hit!! They need to give up alreay!! and who ever takes a job with them is NUTS as them

  2. If they were smart, NBC would shelve The Voice until next spring instead of putting it on in the fall. But as I said, “if they were smart…”
