Jimmy Smits, who was a New York police detective on “NYPD Blue” in the 1990s and a lawyer on “L.A. Law” in the 1980s, will spend a season as a gang member on FX’s biker drama "Sons of Anarchy," reports TheWrap.com.
His character, Neron "Nero" Padilla, will mentor the newly installed SAMCRO president Jackson "Jax" Teller, the story notes.
The casting comes after Smits starred in the canceled NBC series "Outlaw," in which he played a Supreme Court justice who becomes a private attorney, the story says. The fifth season of "Sons of Anarchy" will debut in September.
