Soap Opera Introduces Lesbian Love Story

A long-running daytime soap opera will head in a new direction with its first-ever lesbian story line, EW.com reports. The soap is the CBS staple "The Bold and the Beautiful."

The series will introduce veteran soap actress Crystal Chappell as Danielle, one of Caroline’s (Linsey Godfrey) two mothers, the story reports.

Chappell, who was recently on "Days of Our Lives" and played another lesbian character on "Guiding Light," will be introduced in mid-May when her character goes to Los Angeles to visit Caroline. At that point, the secret about Caroline’s two moms will be revealed.

While other soaps have dabbled in homosexuality, including a current story line on "Days of Our Lives," this is a first for "The Bold and the Beautiful," which has been on the air since 1987. The CBS soap has won the Daytime Emmy as Outstanding Drama for the past three years.
