The Late Miss Ellie Will Be Part of New ‘Dallas’

Even though the actress who created the role of J.R. and Bobby Ewing’s mother, Miss Ellie, in CBS’s "Dallas" is no longer around, she will be a big part of the new TNT reboot, reports TV Guide.

Barbara Bel Geddes, who played Ellie, died in 2005. But Patrick Duffy, who plays Bobby, said: "Barbara is a big piece of our history, and it’s important to me to honor her. To come back with Linda Gray as Sue Ellen and Larry [Hagman] in his J.R. hat, and then see the words ELLIE SOUTHWORTH EWING FARLOW on the gravestone made me think, ‘Oh, that’s right — she’s gone.’ It was hard to get through the dialogue."

Also to be remembered is the late Jim Davis, who played the Ewing patriarch, Jock. Production designer Richard Berg painted a portrait of Jock and Miss Ellie, which will be prominently displayed in the Ewing home.

Said Duffy: "That painting is actually alive and gives me a nice feeling that they’re always there. Through the whole first season, I don’t think an episode goes by that Mama is not mentioned in reference to Southfork and the land."
