Bieber Bombs on NBC

Whether Justin Bieber dragged down NBC or NBC dragged down Justin Bieber is a matter of interpretation, but one thing is clear: The combination didn’t work.

TVbytheNumbers.com reports that Wednesday night’s concert special “Justin Bieber: All Around the World” was a ratings bust, pulling just a 0.9 average rating in the key 18-49 demo, according to Nielsen overnights. That number was only about half of the 1.7 turned in two weeks ago by NBC’s previous music special, “Adele: Live in London.”

On a night of mostly repeat programming on the broadcast nets, the Bieber special helped flatten NBC’s overall results, leaving the Peacock Network in a distant fifth place for the night.

Winning the night was Fox, behind a two-hour “So You Think You Can Dance” — the only serious contender among the night’s few fresh shows. Fox muscled its way to a 2.4 average rating in 18-49 for the night, well ahead of Univision (1.4 average), ABC (1.2), CBS (1.2) and NBC (0.9). Fox also won total viewers, averaging 6.5 million to 5.8 million for CBS, 4.2 million for ABC, 3.6 million for NBC and 3.5 million for Univision.

CBS brought out a new episode of “Dogs in the City,” which managed only a 1.0 average in adults 18-49. ABC pulled in a 1.1 average for a 90-minute “Duets.” Everything else on the Big 4 nets was repeat programming.
