CBS is in talks about extending "How I Met Your Mother" for a ninth season, according to CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler, EW.com’s Inside TV reports.

"We’re in early conversations and we’re pretty optimistic," Tassler said. She spoke at the Television Critics Association press tour.

According to Deadline.com, the ninth season would lead to the reveal about the identity of the mother. The show will return for its eighth season in September.

Creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas "have a very strategic wrapup for the show,” Tassler said, according to Deadline.com.

Separately, the show will be issuing its own soundtrack, which will debut on iTunes on "How I Met Your Mother’s” premiere night of Sept. 24, reports HitFix.com.

The tracks will include all the Robin Sparkles songs, "Nothing Suits Me Like a Suit," and the Puzzles theme song, the story notes.
