Bill Asher, a veteran TV director and producer who was behind hundreds of episodes of hit shows, has died, the Desert Sun reports. Asher died Monday in Palm Desert, Calif.
Asher was the primary director of "I Love Lucy," and later received four Emmy nominations for directing and producing "Bewitched," which starred his then-wife Elizabeth Montgomery, the story notes. He won the Emmy for best director for the program in 1966.
Deadline.com reports: "He eventually worked with pretty much every TV legend-to-be there was, from Danny Thomas to Dinah Shore to Sally Field, on shows ranging from ‘The Patty Duke Show,’ which he co-created with Sidney Sheldon, to ‘The Thin Man,’ the Linda Lavin-starring ‘Alice,’ ‘Private Benjamin’ and ‘Harper Valley.’"
Asher also directed “Gidget,” and went on to direct beach movies such as "How to Stuff a Wild Bikini" and "Beach Party." He retired from film and TV in 1991.
