‘GMA’ Fixture Taking Leave From Morning Show to Undergo Medical Treatment

A familiar face on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” appearing by satellite during the network’s panel Thursday at the Television Critics Association press tour, revealed that she will be taking a leave of absence from the show to undergo a bone marrow transplant, reports E! Online.

Robin Roberts will need receive the transplant to deal with myelodysplastic syndromes, a disease of the blood and bone marrow. On air a month ago, Roberts — a breast cancer survivor — told viewers of her condition and the need for the procedure.

During her leave from "GMA," Roberts told reporters, "wonderful friends" will be filling in for her, including Barbara Walters, Diane Sawyer, Katie Couric and perhaps Kelly Ripa.

Roberts, 51, has been a co-anchor on “GMA” since 2005. She has said that her condition is a complication from treatments she received for breast cancer.
