HBO unveiled plans today for two of its top dramas, "Boardwalk Empire" and "Treme," announcing that both series will return for their third seasons in September, reports TVLine.com.

“Boardwalk Empire” will bow Sunday, Sept. 16, at 9 p.m., with most of the cast intact. Michael Pitt’s Jimmy Darmody is out, as per the storyline. Bobby Cannavale ("Will & Grace") and Stephen Root ("NewsRadio") join the "Boardwalk" cast — Cannavale as a regular and Root in a recurring role. Meanwhile, Paz de la Huerta slips from her role as a regular, presumably to recurring status.

"Treme" returns Sunday, Sept. 23, at 10 p.m. for a 10-episode run. The New Orleans-focused series has been off the air for more than a year.
