With Steven Tyler now out as a judge on Fox’s long-running hit "American Idol," might Randy Jackson be the next person to exit the judging table?

Says Us Weekly, "Now, a source tells Us Weekly that Tyler and [Jennifer] Lopez’s fellow judge Randy Jackson is also making a big move — with plans to leave the judges’ panel but remain involved with a mentoring role on the show."

The story adds, "One very likely new judge? Mariah Carey, whose manager is Jackson himself, and who could fill a similar judge’s role assumed by fellow superstar Lopez, 42. ‘They are in serious talks with Mariah and it’s very close to being a done deal,’ the source says. ‘And they will move Randy into a more mentoring role.’"

The article continues: "The insider added that show producers are scrambling to fill the other two slots alongside Carey; other celebs who have been considered to sit at the judges’ table include Fergie and Adam Lambert."

As previously reported, Tyler has announced he is leaving "Idol," and J-Lo continues her negotiations with the show about her possible return this fall.

  1. The show has never been the same since they started putting celebs on the judging panel. It has become all about the celeb judges and not the kids trying to become celebs.

  2. Jennifer Lopez is not returning, and don’t be surprised if Randy Jackson steps aside soon.
