‘SNL’ Star Has the Inside Track to Replace Regis Philbin

Disney TV, ABC and "Live with Kelly!" executive producer Michael Gelman are expected to make a decision by September on a permanent co-host for Kelly Ripa on the morning show, and ShowBiz411.com reports that the likely replacement for Regis Philbin will be Seth Meyers.

The "Saturday Night Live" star has a week scheduled as a fill-in on the show this month, which is seen as a test of his audience appeal and his chemistry with Ripa. Former New York Giant Michael Strahan and singer Josh Groban are also considered to be in the mix, with Meyers the frontrunner.

Since Philbin’s exit, a series of guest hosts have been working with Ripa.

Ripa reportedly would love to get Anderson Cooper as Regis’ replacement, but since he has his own talk show and CNN duties, that’s considered unlikely.

Meyers, who is currently “SNL’s” head writer along with hosting its “Weekend Update” segment, begins his tryout on “Live” Monday, July 9. He joined “SNL” in 2001.

  1. live with Seth and Kelly? i’d actually watch that ;0

  2. No way,I have already been watching her less and less. This would push me over the edge. He is good on SNL but not right fit for her show. Why not Nick or Josh? somebody she has obvious connection with. She comes off as blah with him.

  3. If not Seth, then Nick Lachey…anyone else would be a rating disaster
