USA Network has its sights set on a stronger presence in reality programming, and as a step in that direction the network has ordered 10 episodes of “The Choir,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The new music reality series features Gareth Malone in the position of choir master, a position he had in the British incarnation of the show. Each episode will have Malone transforming unsuspecting communities through the creation of music groups.

Heather Olander, USA’s senior vice president, reality development, said: "From our first meeting with Gareth, we were blown away by his ability to unite people through music. Comedic, unpredictable, emotional, the series taps into the heart of what we’re aiming for on the reality front and spotlights true American characters.”

When the project first was mentioned last November, "The Choir" was described by USA co-President Jeff Wachtel as having "a bit of a ‘Full Monty’ vibe to it."

The report notes: “’The Choir’ joins the Kurt Warner-hosted unscripted series ‘The Moment,’ which was picked up in January for nine episodes and centers on people who get a second chance at reclaiming career dreams that they put on hold when their lives got in the way. ‘The Moment’ launches next year.”
