While it’s not unusual for President Obama to appear on late-night television, his appearance Tuesday night on " Late Show with David Letterman" turned out to be particularly well timed, reports the Los Angeles Times’ Show Tracker.
That’s because he appeared just a day after a videotape emerged that showed his GOP opponent, Mitt Romney, implying that 47% of Americans accept government handouts and pay no taxes, the story says.
Obama didn’t seek to explain Romney’s comments, according to the article. The clip of Obama’s response to the Romney video appears below.
Obama said during the appearance: “One of the things I’ve learned as president is you represent the entire country, and when I meet Republicans as I’m traveling around the country, they are hard-working, family people who care deeply about this country, and my expectation is that if you want to be president, you’ve got to work for everybody, not just for some."
Obama also criticized Romney’s comment that Obama’s supporters see themselves as victims.
"I promise you, there are not a lot of people out there who think they’re victims, there are not a lot of people who think that they’re entitled to something,” the president said.
Now will there be any doubt that a Romney administration would favor the rich and increase the income gap in our country? You must be part of the 47% – worried about getting cut off. Absolutely nothing you said is true, though I can’t verify the underwear nor have I any inclination to look it up. If you were to desire to become a great tennis player, do you seek the advice of someone worse off than you? If you want a country to grow economically do you choose someone who has never even had a lemonade stand or do you choose someone who makes $20 million dollars a year just on his investments? You chose the Community Organizer and that’s just what we got – a welfare state with more people on food stamps and out of work than ever in history. If you blame George Bush, look back and see when the greatest economic growths were in history – when Republicans had control over Congress – Clinton enjoyed the benefits, Bush had to deal with 911 which probably wouldn’t have occurred had Clinton taken bin Laden when he was offered up to Clinton. So take the underwear off your head, put away the medical marijuana card, stop taking checks for two years of unemployment that you know you fudged with the relaxed welfare rules of Obama and the increase of welfare given to illegal aliens, drug dealers, murderers and rapists.
