ABC is close to a script deal for a comedy from husband and wife Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa, reports Deadline.com.

Consuelos would star in the project, about a working-class handyman from Queens who becomes part of a nontraditional family unit in New York’s wealthy Upper West Side, the story notes. This marks the second time ABC and ABC Studios have put a comedy into development starring Consuelos, after the workplace comedy "Port Love" two years ago, the story adds.

Ripa is executive producer along with Consuelos, with Peter Murrieta writing the project based on an idea by Aaron Kaplan. Both Kaplan and Murrieta will also executive produce. Murrieta, who worked as showrunner on the first three seasons of "The Wizards of Waverly Place," also has a family project at NBC, the piece adds.

Ripa hosts "Live with Kelly & Michael" along with Michael Strahan.
