CNN Caught in Storm-Related Twitter Gaffe

One thing about Twitter as a news source is that it’s fast. Unfortunately, that also means that it’s not always fact-checked, and CNN fell into that trap Monday night, reports TVNewser.com.

At approximately, 9:30 p.m., the handle @CNNWeather tweeted that the floor of the New York Stock Exchange had flooded. CNN’s Chad Myers told CNN host Piers Morgan that had obtained that news item from "the National Weather Service chat bulletin board.”

CNN tweeted the news, then scurried to confirm the story. The tweet read: “BREAKING: New York Stock Exchange under 3 FEET OF WATER per an @NWSNewYorkNY report due to #Sandy”

A short time later, CNN tweeted a correction. "#NSYE officials reporting that the floor is NOT flooding at this time. This is a good thing."
