Hallmark Channel has ordered its first scripted series. The cable network will skip the backdoor pilot stage for the project “Cedar Cove” and is setting it up to run instead as a series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The original plan for the show, which stars Andie MacDowell, was to air it as a two-hour TV movie, the report notes. Now it will premiere Jan. 19, with additional episodes to come in the spring.

MacDowell won a Golden Globe special award in 1993 that honored the entire ensemble cast of the movie "Short Cuts."

The project is based on the book by Debbie Macomber and will star MacDowell as a small-town family court judge. Dylan Neal will co-star as Jack Griffith, the local newspaper editor and a love interest for MacDowell’s character, the story adds.
