New Low for Long-Running Reality Franchise in Sunday Ratings

Oct 22, 2012  •  Post A Comment

A long-running reality series fell to an all-time low in Sunday’s ratings, based on Nielsen overnight figures. The series is CBS’s “Amazing Race,” which managed only a 2.3 average rating in the key demo of viewers 18-49, TVbytheNumbers.com reports.

That number is down three-tenths of a ratings point from a week earlier, and a new low for an original episode airing during the fall season.

Meanwhile, NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” easily carried the night, averaging a 6.0 rating in 18-49 and powering the Peacock Network to an overall win for prime time.

NBC finished prime time with a 4.8 average in adults 18-49, beating CBS (3.8 average), ABC (2.3) and Fox (1.6). CBS moved ahead in total viewers, averaging 14.5 million to 12.8 million for NBC, 7.3 million for ABC and 5.6 million for Fox.

Numbers for Fox, CBS and NBC are subject to more than the usual adjustments because of the nature of live sports programming.

ABC’s “Once Upon a Time” scored a 3.3 average in the 18-49 demo, up from a 3.0 a week ago. “Revenge” also rose, from a 2.6 to a 2.8, while “666 Park Avenue” was up as well, from a 1.5 to a 1.8.

  1. Dear CBS…
Move Amazing Race to a night whose schedule is not screwed up by NFL games.

  2. Dear CBS…
How about canceling this tired show?

  3. Dear CBS…
Then, can you plan to fill to 8:00 with a football post-game show so your entire Sunday night schedule doesn’t suffer?

  4. Only if they finally kill the comatose “Survivor” and always-been-braindead “Big Brother” first. “Race” is the only tolerable series in an awful genre.
