They met in 1970 and within two weeks they were living together. And it really worked — they were together 41 years.

But today it’s been confirmed that Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman have separated, reports ABC News.

The ABC News report says, "Actors Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman have separated, DeVito’s rep confirmed to ABCNews.com today."

After living together for 11 years, the couple were married 30 years ago, on Jan. 28, 1982.

According to the report, "DeVito, 67, and Perlman, 64 … have three children together. They met in 1970 after Perlman went to see a friend in the Broadway play “The Shrinking Bride” and ended up charmed by DeVito, who was also in the production."

Later DeVito became a TV star on the popular sitcom "Taxi," and Perlman became a star on NBC’s must-see hit "Cheers."

In a feature article about the couple in 1983 People magazine called them "TV’s Tart-Tongued Twosome." The People article was all about their successful marriage.

Here’s how that 1983 People article ended: "Whatever the formula for their successful showbiz marriage, it’s unfortunate that they can’t market it. ‘There’s a balance to their relationship, and they protect it zealously,’ says [friend Michael] Douglas. ‘There’s a magic about them.’ Yes, this is one solid marriage. Okay, how solid is it? It’s so solid, says Rhea, that ‘you’d really have to work hard at breaking us up at this point.’ And that’s no joke."
