PBS was the big winner at the 33rd Annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards, presented by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The service took home nine Emmys to lead the way — including five Emmys for its “POV” series.

ABC and CBS tied for second with seven Emmys each, followed by NBC with three. Tied with two Emmys apiece were CNN (and CNNi), Discovery Channel and HBO.

Among the top categories, ABC won for outstanding coverage of a breaking news story in a regularly scheduled newscast (for “Gadhafi Speaks”); outstanding continuing coverage of a news story in a regularly scheduled newscast (for “Crisis in Libya”); and outstanding feature story in a regularly scheduled newscast (for “American Valor: Land of the Brave”); while CBS won for outstanding investigative journalism in a regularly scheduled newscast (for “Gunwalker: Fast and Furious”).

PBS’s “Frontline” picked up two Emmys for outstanding coverage of a breaking news story in a newsmagazine, for “Revolution in Cairo” and “Syria Undercover.”

CBS’s “48 Hours” won outstanding continuing coverage of a news story in a newsmagazine for “Grave Injustice,” and CBS’s “60 Minutes” won outstanding feature story in a newsmagazine for “Gospel for Teens.”

ABC’s “20/20” won outstanding investigative journalism in a newsmagazine for “Brian Ross Investigates: Peace Corps — A Trust Betrayed.”

TV stations winning for regional reporting were WFAA-TV in Dallas and WTHR-TV in Indianapolis.
