The second debate between President Barack Obama and Republican candidate Mitt Romney drew 65.6 million viewers, just slightly down from the numbers for the first debate on Oct. 3, reports The New York Times’ Media Decoder.
Millions more watched in public places or on computers, but those viewers weren’t counted in Nielsen’s numbers, the story points out.
NBC and ABC drew 13.8 million and 12.4 million viewers, respectively, while CBS attracted 8.9 million viewers.
The biggest cable audience was on Fox News, which drew 11.1 million viewers. That number equaled Fox News’ biggest audience in its 16-year history, the story points out, with the network reaching that number just once before: during the 2008 vice presidential debate between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin.
CNN had 5.77 million and MSNBC attracted 4.87 million, the piece notes.
