ABC Cancels Two Drama Series

Nov 19, 2012  •  Post A Comment

ABC has canceled two drama series, B&C reports. The network will burn off the remaining episodes of freshman shows "Last Resort" and "666 Park Avenue," but will not place back orders for complete seasons.

Both series struggled to build an audience after debuting with modest numbers, the piece notes. "Last Resort" was scheduled at 8 p.m. on Thursdays, which has proved to be a difficult timeslot for ABC. In previous seasons the network has tried "Charlie’s Angels" and "My Generation" in the slot, ultimately canceling those series as well.

"666 Park Avenue" was up against NFL football on Sunday nights, and its most recent episode matched the series low with a 1.3 average rating in the key 18-49 demo.

Both shows will air their remaining episodes in their initial 13-episode orders.

  1. I expected these shows to be cancelled; I watch them both.
I hope ABC will at least have a wrap-up episode for Last Resort, and let the crew go home.

  2. Viewers will probably be left hanging for a wrap-up to Last Resort. My wife and son were into this series, but it never struck a cord with me. Couldn’t see the rather downbeat premise working as a series. Would have been better as a movie or two to three part mini-series.

  3. Sigh. The networks have done it to me again. Hooked me like a fish, and now they’re going to leave me dangling.
If there’s no wrap-up episode, can they package the series of a mini series for foreign territories that includes some sort of ending?? Please??

  4. Same here. Watched both of these shows and liked both of them. Always, the same thing. Low Demo Group ratings killed these shows. The Last Resort averaged 6 million viewers. CW would kill to have (1) show with anything close to 6 million viewers.
I know, I know. The Demo ratings override the total viewers numbers.
