Actress Airs Her CBS Dirty Laundry on Fox News

An actress who was written out of her role on a CBS drama series outlined her problems with the powers-that-be during an interview with Fox News’ Arthel Neville, reports Deadline.com.

Jennifer Esposito, who has been diagnosed with Celiac disease, lost her role on CBS’s "Blue Bloods" because of her health condition, as previously reported. She told Neville on "Fox Files": “What happened was ugliness.”

Esposito’s doctor advised the actress to reduce her work load. But rather than work with her, Esposito says, CBS TV Studios shelved her.

She explained on-air: "Last week I believe I was told I was on suspension, which meant I am still in contract, not being paid, because that’s suspension and they illegally stopped paying. And I am not able to work on any other TV show, on network. I can do a film or a Broadway or something on cable that doesn’t go in the ten o’clock time slot. So they kept me in my contract without pay and yes it’s completely illegal but they also knew that I didn’t have the money or the means to sue them. I have been in the business for 20 years; there [have] been so many [examples] of injustice that happens in this business. It’s what you sign up for; it is what it is. This, though, is something that is not about me, I feel. This is about a disease that people don’t understand. And what went on after, it makes me sick."

The producers of "Blue Bloods" contend that they could not accommodate Esposito shifting from full time to part time. CBS has left the door open for Esposito to return as Det. Jackie Curatola.

  1. This is crap. CBS should just let her out of her contract. And the Federal Justice Dept should step in and force the issue. She is not that big a ratings draw on her own that she can do CBS any damage, even if she went on another network.

  2. Actually, she was one of the characters we liked the most. So losing her makes us less likely to keep watching the show.

  3. If this is a medical condition, sounds like she has a disability.
There should be recourse under the Americans with Disability Act (ADA), both for disability pay, contract enforcement and civil fines against the producers for the illegal acts.
