Longtime “Saturday Night Live” guru Lorne Michaels is producing a new comedy series for NBC that will star an “SNL” regular, Deadline.com reports.

The untitled sitcom is a vehicle for Kenan Thompson, who made his mark in comedy series on Nickelodeon — “All That” and the spinoff “Kenan & Kel” — before landing what turned out to be a longtime spot on “SNL.” Known for his impersonations of Al Sharpton, Bill Cosby and Whoopi Goldberg, Thompson has been with the sketch comedy show for the past 10 seasons.

The new sitcom, which has a script commitment from NBC, is a family comedy with Thompson playing a man who moves in with his in-laws, the piece notes, adding: “Another member of the ‘SNL’ team, writer Bryan Tucker, is writing the script and will executive produce with Thompson, Michaels and Andrew Singer (‘30 Rock’).”

Michaels has been using “SNL” personnel to feed NBC’s comedy pipeline for some time, and currently executive produces both Tina Fey’s “30 Rock” and Maya Rudolph’s “Up All Night.” “30 Rock” is wrapping up after this season.
