A returning NBC sitcom matched its all-time low with its season premiere Wednesday night, as the Peacock Network finished well behind its Big Four broadcast rivals in the key 18-49 demo, based on Nielsen overnights.

TVbytheNumbers.com reports that “Whitney,” the Whitney Cummings comedy series, returned to a 1.4 average rating in 18-49, 13% below its season one finale and equaling its series low. Also matching a series low was the network’s “Guys With Kids,” which came in with a 1.3. And “Law & Order: SVU” tied its all-time low with a 1.6, slipping from the 1.7 for its previous original episode.

The network’s “Chicago Fire” was off too, slipping 27% from last week to a 1.6 in viewers 18-49, but that can be explained by the loss of its lead-in from last week, the high-rated “The Voice.”

When the dust settled, NBC was in fifth place for prime time overall. Fox won the night with a 2.9 average rating in the 18-49 demo, followed by CBS (2.7 average), ABC (2.5), Univision (1.6) and NBC (1.5). CBS won total viewers by averaging 11.0 million, followed by Fox (8.1 million), ABC (7.7 million), NBC (5.2 million) and Univision (3.9 million).

While Fox’s two-hour “The X Factor” was up 12% from last week to a 2.9 average in 18-49, other networks had their share of disappointing numbers.

On ABC, “Suburgatory” tied a season low and “Nashville” slipped to an all-time low as the entire prime-time lineup was down from last week. “Suburgatory” came in with a 2.4 in the 18-49 demo, down 17%; “Nashville” managed only a 1.8, down 10%; “The Middle” delivered a 2.5, down 7%; “The Neighbors” dipped to a 1.9, off 10%; and even “Modern Family,” the night’s top-rated show with a 4.6, slipped 4%.

CBS had mixed results, with “Survivor: Philippines” down 7% from a week ago to a 2.6 average rating in 18-49, “Criminal Minds” even with last week with a 3.0, and “CSI” notching a 4% improvement to a 2.4.
