Actor Who Played Ralph the Doorman on ‘The Jeffersons’ Dead at 89

The actor who played Ralph the Doorman on the classic CBS comedy "The Jeffersons" has died, reports the Associated Press. He was 89.

Ned Wertimer died Jan. 2 at a Los Angeles-area nursing home, after he fell at his Burbank home in November, the piece notes.

Wertimer, who appeared on dozens of TV shows from the early 1960s through the late 1980s, was best known for his role as Ralph Hart, the doorman at the luxury apartment building in "The Jeffersons," which was a spinoff of "All in the Family." He appeared in all 11 seasons of the show, which ran from 1975 to 1985, the piece notes.

He made guest appearances on a number of TV series in a career going back to the 1950s, including appearing on “Mary Tyler Moore,” “Happy Days,” “WKRP in Cincinnati” and “Mork & Mindy.”
