An "American Idol" champion was injured in a head-on collision on New Year’s Day. The Hollywood Reporter’s Idol Worship reports that Kris Allen, the season eight winner, and his wife, Katy, were involved in the wreck.

Allen, whose dog, Zorro, was also in the car, had a broken arm. The singer’s mother, Kimberly, tweeted, "Kristopher and Katy are both pretty beat up but ALIVE! Thank you Jesus! They are setting his arm now and will have surgery tomorrow. Zorro is fine, too! Very shook up, but not injured."

Allen is supposed to start a tour this month, but might be sidelined with the injury, the story notes. He tweeted to his fans that everyone is OK, including Katy, who is pregnant with the couple’s first child.
