A British period drama has been renewed for a second season, reports B&C. Returning in 2014 with eight new episodes will be BBC America’s “Ripper Street.”

The show is set in the era of Jack the Ripper. The series debuted Jan. 19 in the U.S., following its Dec. 30, 2012, premiere on BBC One in the U.K.

In a statement, Richard De Croce, senior VP of programming for BBC America, said: "’Ripper Street’ on BBC America has just begun, with an additional six more episodes featuring great guest stars and powerful performances ahead this season. We’re looking forward to exploring more of Victorian London in season two."
