As NBC and Fox struggled to find viewers for their prime-time programming Thursday night, CBS saw the ratings continue to surge for “The Big Bang Theory,” based on Nielsen overnights.

TVbytheNumbers.com reports that “Big Bang” topped its all-time best number in the key 18-49 demo, delivering a 6.3 average rating — two-tenths of a point better than last week’s 6.1, which was a series high at the time. The show also drew 19.78 million total viewers, an especially impressive number given that broadcast prime time has been suffering through a period of generally low viewership.

Even with the rest of its lineup down, CBS coasted to an easy win for the night. CBS’s “Two and a Half Men” fell three-tenths from last week to a 4.2 in viewers 18-49, “Person of Interest” dipped one-tenth to a 3.3 and “Elementary” slipped two-tenths to a 2.4

CBS won the night with a 3.6 average rating in 18-49 for prime time overall, outpacing ABC (2.4 average), Univision (1.6), NBC (1.5) and Fox (0.9). CBS dominated total viewers, averaging 14.7 million to 7.8 million for ABC, 4.1 million for Univision, 3.9 million for NBC and 2.7 million for Fox.

ABC’s “Scandal” hit a season high with a 2.8 average rating in the 18-49 demo, up four-tenths from its previous original episode. “Grey’s Anatomy” was also up, rising two-tenths to a 3.1, and “Last Resort” climbed three-tenths to a 1.2.

NBC’s new show “1600 Penn” didn’t fare as well as it did when it debuted with “The Voice” as a lead-in, managing only a 1.6 in viewers 18-49 its time period premiere, down six-tenths from its previous 2.2. “30 Rock” rose three-tenths, leaving it at a 1.4, “The Office” ticked up one-tenth to a 2.2 and “Rock Center” eased up one-tenth to a 1.1.

Fox aired a repeat of “Glee” (0.7 in 18-49) along with a fresh episode of “Mobbed,” which rose one-tenth from last week to a 1.2.

  1. I just saw an episode of “1600 Penn”. What a total piece of crap. Bill Pullman and Jenna Elfman must need money to be involved in this.

  2. I saw a promo for 1600 Penn and knew right away it was a piece of total crap. I also knew it would be a flop….and it will.
