‘DWTS’ Dancer Julianne Hough Says She Was Abused as a Child

"Dancing with the Stars" dancer Julianne Hough tells Cosmopolitan she was abused as a child, when she was sent at age 10 to study dance in London.

"While I was in London, I was abused, mentally, physically, everything," she said. She declined to say who did the abuse or in what way, the story says. "I was a tormented little kid who had to put on this sexy facade because that was my job and my life. But my heart was the same, and I was this innocent little girl. I wanted so much love."

Her brother Derek, who also is on "Dancing with the Stars," was studying at the prestigious Italia Conti Academy of the Arts when a space opened up and she joined him. Hough ended up with a five-year scholarship, and rarely saw or talked with her family, the story says.

"I was told if I ever went back to the United States, three things were going to happen. One: I was going to amount to nothing. Two: I was going to work at Whataburger. And three: I was going to end up a slut. So, it was like, I can’t go back. I have to be this person," she said.
