Fox News Host Goes After Prominent Editor, Demands — and Gets — Correction

One of the hosts of the Fox News Channel went after a prominent journalist after being incorrectly attributed with a quote insulting Hillary Clinton — and got a correction for the misquote, TVNewser.com reports.

The host, Greta Van Susteren, first took her case to the Internet, using her blog to demand a correction and apology from Daily Beast writer Lauren Ashburn — before going after the publication’s editor.

TVNewser reports: “In a piece assailing Fox News hosts and analysts who’d mocked the illness of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton — before it was revealed she had a blood clot — Ashburn incorrectly attributed the quote ‘immaculate concussion’ to Van Susteren, when it was Laura Ingraham who’d said it.”

Van Susteren wrote on her blog: “The DAILY BEAST NEEDS TO CORRECT THIS PRONTO — and do so in a BIG WAY (not hidden in some little footnote.)”

Van Susteren then called prominent journalist Tina Brown, editor of the Daily Beast:

Van Susteren wrote: “She said ‘if it is wrong, I will fix it. We will take it out.’ I said, ‘it is wrong’ and that I don’t want some little correction — I want a prominent one since insulting the Secretary of State is no small mistake. She cut me off and hung up on me.”

Daily Beast later ran this correction: “Editor’s note: In an earlier version of this article, Greta Van Susteren was incorrectly quoted as joking that Hillary Cilnton had had an ‘immaculate concussion.’ In fact, that phrase was used by Laura Ingraham. We apologize for the error.”

  1. Good for Tina for being upfront about the error and not turning it into a bigger story.
