Katie Couric has lined up the first on-camera interview with Notre Dame football standout Manti Te’o since news of an Internet hoax involving his non-existent girlfriend made national headlines, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Te’o is a star linebacker who says he was the victim of the hoax.
Couric scooped many other interviewers who wanted to grab Te’o for his first interview, including Oprah Winfrey. Te’o’s spokesman, Matthew Hiltzik, is a longtime representative for Couric, the story points out.
The interview will air Jan. 24 on "Katie," the story notes. Couric will speak with Te’o in a pre-recorded interview, and Te’o will appear on the show with his parents. Te’o’s parents, who say they were also victims of the hoax, will be speaking publicly for the first time about the story.
