New CNN President Jeff Zucker told the network’s staff that he backs Piers Morgan’s decision to speak out on gun control, reports Politico.com.
Zucker made the comments during a town-hall meeting with employees, according to the story. He was asked about CNN expressing opinions, which it has tried to avoid in the past. Zucker said he supports it where appropriate, and pointed to Morgan’s stance as an example.
As previously reported, Morgan’s stance on gun control prompted a petition from more than 100,000 signees who wanted him deported back to his home country of the U.K. The White House responded to the petition with a statement indicating that Morgan will be allowed to remain in the U.S.
