Time Warner Cable Bans Some Gun Ads

Some gun ads have been banned by Time Warner Cable, weeks after a mass shooting at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn., reports Multichannel News.

"We no longer accept ads showing semiautomatic weapons and guns pointed at people,” the company said in a statement. "We stand by this policy. If it’s essential to a business owner to show this kind of imagery in their commercials, there are other advertising options in the marketplace."

The cable company’s ban comes after the Sportsman Channel was criticized for airing an ad from the National Rifle Association. That NRA ad called President Obama an "elitist hypocrite" because he was against an NRA proposal to place guards with firearms in elementary schools while his daughters are protected by armed Secret Service guards, the story notes.
