‘Mad Men’ Actress January Jones Reveals She’s Having an Unusual Appearance Problem — and She Says She Knows Why It’s Happening

Actress January Jones, known for her role as Betty, Don Draper’s ex-wife, on the AMC hit “Mad Men,” revealed that she is experiencing an unusual problem: Her hair is falling out.

ABC News reports that Jones, 35, says the problem is fallout from her frequent changes of hair color — something many actors, and actresses in particular, have to put up with. Jones is “now sharing the hard truth about the color changes and the toll they have taken on her hair,” the story reports.

Jones said in a recent interview: “I have been every color and now my hair is falling out in clumps. … I like it all colors — it makes you feel different according to what color it is, but I prefer to be blonde. My son recognizes me in photos when I am blonde. He says, ‘Mama.’”

Jones, who has been promoting her new movie “Sweetwater,” added: “I’ve been blonde, red with extensions for this film, then blonde, then black, and now blonde again. I’m going to have to shave it off and wear a wig.”

Hair stylists agree that excessive hair coloring can contribute to hair loss, the piece notes, while genetics and medical conditions such as thyroid disease also play a role.

Other celebrities, including Lady Gaga and Kelly Osbourne, have had similar problems, the piece notes.
