Amazon has cast "Roseanne" star John Goodman in one of its first six original comedy pilots, reports Deadline.com. The project, "Alpha House," is written by Oscar nominee and Pulitzer Prize winner Garry Trudeau.

The show is about four senators who live in a rented Washington, D.C., house, the story says. Goodman will play North Carolina Sen. Gil John Biggs, a former successful basketball coach, the story says.

Amazon has been casting well-known television actors and young, rising talent for its pilots. It recently cast Bebe Neuwirth of "Cheers" in the project "Browsers,” as previously reported.
