A campaigner who is urging Macy’s to sever ties with Donald Trump has been threatened with a $25 million lawsuit by Trump, reports TheWrap.com.
Trump’s attorney, Alan Garten, sent a letter to Angelo Carusone, who started the online petition that urges Macy’s to dump Trump.
"While you claim to be merely exercising [your] right to free speech, your egregious, pre-meditated and illegal conduct far exceeds anything protected by the Constitution," the letter, which was dated Dec. 27, reads. It says that Trump will sue Carusone for damages "not less than $25,000,000" if he continues.
Carusone has gathered more than 680,000 signatures on his petition, which he started last year on SignOn.Org, the story notes. The petition urges Macy’s to cut its ties with Trump because of his alleged "unpleasant, nasty and despicable behavior" including "sexist behavior" and his perpetuation of the "birther theory."
The move comes amid a separate $5 million lawsuit by Trump against comedian Bill Maher, as previously reported.
