The BBC has pulled the plug on a drama series, Deadline.com reports. The broadcaster announced that it will end the 1950s series “The Hour,” which focuses on a BBC newsmagazine.
The show, which has aired in the U.S. on BBC America, ran for two seasons.
The broadcaster said in a statement: “We loved the show but have to make hard choices to bring new shows through.”
The series, which stars Ben Whinshaw (“Skyfall”), Romola Garai and Dominic West (“The Wire”), debuted in 2011 with a six-episode season on BBC Two in the U.K.
“While ‘The Hour’ started off with strong viewership in the U.K., its audience had fallen by almost half by the second season,” the report notes. “The show was nominated for an Emmy and three Golden Globes last year, including Best Miniseries or Made For TV Movie.”
