A well-known singer pulled the plug on a scheduled appearance Tuesday on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” refusing to appear on the same show with cast members from the A&E reality show "Duck Dynasty," reports The New York Times’ ArtsBeat.
Morrissey, the former leader of the Smiths and a singer known for his animal rights activism, labeled the “Duck” folks "animal serial killers," the piece notes.
Morrissey, whose band created the 1985 hit album "Meat Is Murder," said his reputation couldn’t "take the risk of being on a show alongside people who, in effect, amount to animal serial killers." He added, "If Jimmy cannot dump ‘Duck Dynasty,’ then we must step away.”
The story notes: "His views on killing ducks for sport are pretty far from the bushy-bearded duck-hunting gang on ‘Duck Dynasty,’ who manufacture calls and other gear for hunters."
Kimmel’s show replaced Morrissey with the band Churchill, the story adds.
The report adds: “The performance was to have been Morrissey’s first since last month, when he canceled several concerts after being diagnosed with a bleeding ulcer. He is now scheduled to resume touring on Wednesday in San Diego before returning to Los Angeles for a show at the Staples Center.”
The story notes that Staples Center refused a request by Morrissey to serve only vegetarian dishes at his concert, but agreed to add some vegetarian options at its restaurants.
No wonder this pinhead has ulcers if this is the type of thing that bothers him.
Ducks Unlimited has done more to guarantee the continued existence of ducks and other game than Morrissey could do in a dozen lifetimes. I do not hunt but do understand that managed hunting is critical to maintaining healthy and plentiful animals in the wild. If Mr. Morrissey prefers a vegetarian diet and is not bothered by the “insect serial killers” he has that right. But why (except for self aggrandizement) does he want to impose his personal choice and belief on others? I guess I answered my own question!

Because the most vocal of every special interest group (and their sycophants) have an agenda to “change the world”. It isn’t enough for them to live their own lives by their own standards. You can’t “change the world” just living your own life. They are fanatics and everyone else must be made to “see the light” also… whether they are willing or not.
It’s a logical extension of the “if you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem” mentality. An attitude that is the same sort of “either/or”, “black and white” reasoning that those on the left have berated the right about for decades.
Of course, the inherent absurdity of the “animal rights” they propose is ignored when one points out that animals, whose rights they are so adamant about protecting, don’t share their view. Try telling lions, tigers and bears that meat is murder. Lions, tigers and bears don’t give a twit about the rights of the animals they kill… and the notion that is different because they kill kill for food and not for “sport” is also absurd. Anybody who has a cat knows this.

You are so right! I work in a town populated by a bunch of tea partiers and NRA crazies, and they are bent on making sure everyone thinks like they do. I can’t even open my mouth without fear of personal or professional repercussions. How can we even think about animal rights when there are right-wing extremists who want to take our own human rights away and destroy our lives because we don’t fit their mold.
How on earth is not wanting to appear on Jimmy Kimmel or requesting food choices at a venue he is playing at forcing his choices on anybody?
Also, although the hunting organizations such as DU, NWTF, and the like make sweeping claims about how they are protecting the species they hunt, they rarely tell you about why those animals need conservation in the first place: hunting to near extinction. It would be humorously ironic, if it wasn’t so sad.
