Actress Bails Out on ABC Project Over Changes to Her Character

An ABC comedy project whose pilot is being directed by Larry Charles has parted ways with an actress, apparently over changes that have been made to her character since she was hired for the show.

Deadline.com reports that Mercedes Masohn, who was a regular on "666 Park Avenue" and portrayed Deputy U.S. Marshal Isabel Zambada on "The Finder," is leaving the ABC pilot "Mixology." She was one of the first actors cast in the project, which is set in a Manhattan bar where five single guys and five women are searching for love, the story says.

Nine other regulars were cast after Masohn was tapped to play one of the singles. Writers Jon Lucas and Scott Moore subsequently "moved the role in a very different direction, and it became clear this wasn’t right for me," Masohn said, according to the story. "Rather than jeopardize the show, I asked to step aside. They [Lucas, Moore and Charles] and ABC were very understanding, and I wish them all the best with the show.”

The writers reportedly received input from Charles and non-writing executive producer Nina Wass in implementing changes to Masohn’s character along with other tweaks to the pilot. The role is being recast, the piece notes.

Masohn’s departure from “Mixology” allows her to accept a role in another pilot, and Masohn is reportedly fielding interest and may book another project soon, the story says.

  1. For some strange reason you changed Larry Charles’ surname to “David.”
He may have worked on Seinfeld with Larry David, but they are NOT the same person. Look them up.
