ABC’s two-hour “Dancing with the Stars” premiere went head-to-head against NBC’s two-hour “Biggest Loser” season finale Monday night, and CBS got caught in the middle.

TVbytheNumbers.com reports that CBS’s “2 Broke Girls” and “Mike & Molly” both hit lows in the key 18-49 demo, based on Nielsen overnights — a season low for “Mike” and an all-time low for “Girls.” But CBS still had enough left in the tank to finish second overall behind ABC.

“Dancing with the Stars” was down 11% from last spring’s season premiere with a 3.1 average rating in viewers 18-49 — but that number was ABC’s second-best average for the two-hour block since April 2012. Leading out from “Dancing” at 10 p.m., ABC’s “Castle” won the hour with a 2.2 despite slipping 4% from its previous original.

CBS’s “2 Broke Girls” dropped 18% from its last original episode, falling to a series-low 2.7 in the 18-49 demo. “Mike & Molly” lost 11% for a season-low 2.4. Leading the way for the network was “How I Met Your Mother,” which lost 12% for a 2.9. “Rules of Engagement” bounced back from last week’s season low, ticking up 5% to a 2.2. “Hawaii Five-0” rose 5% from its previous original to a 2.1.

Fox’s two dramas were down: “Bones” slipped 9% from its most recent original episode to a 2.0 in 18-49, while “The Following” lost 11% from a week ago to settle for a 2.4.

NBC’s season finale of “The Biggest Loser” showed improvement with a 2.6 in adults 18-49 — up 30% from last week’s episode and up 18% from the season finale last spring. The season finale of “Deception” at 10 p.m. also was up, managing a 1.3, up 18% from a week ago — probably not enough to earn the series another season.

For prime time overall, ABC led the way with a 2.8 average in the 18-49 demo, followed by CBS (2.4), Fox (2.2) and NBC (2.2). ABC was a big winner in total viewers with 14.9 million to CBS’s 8.0 million, Fox’s 7.2 million and NBC’s 6.1 million.
