What Will CBS Do With TV Guide Network?

With CBS buying a stake in TVGN — formerly called the TV Guide Network — the cable network is poised to become completely focused on celebrity gossip, style and red-carpet events, reports Advertising Age.

The article notes: "CBS Corp. and co-owner Lionsgate said this week that they will introduce a new brand and programming strategy for the channel, until recently called the TV Guide Network, but that it will continue its current focus on entertainment. But the assets and ambitions of each owner suggest noticeable changes are in store."

Originally a TV listing service, the network is already leaning toward celebrity focus with shows such as "Hollywood 411," but the new ownership team could expand that with shows from CBS’s syndicated portfolio, such as "Entertainment Tonight" and "OMG Insider."

Ad Age notes: "That would make TVGN a more direct competitor to channels such as E! and Style Network, both of which are owned by NBCUniversal."
