ABC Family announced it has given a series order to a new drama. The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports that the cable channel picked up the pilot “Terminales,” which will be renamed “Chasing Life” as it goes to series.

“With the pickup, the cable network has gone 3-for-3 with its drama pilots, with the murder mystery ‘Twisted’ (formerly ‘Socio’) and ‘The Fosters’ launching in the summer,” the story reports.

The channel ordered a 10-episode season, set to launch in early 2014. Production, set to take place in Santa Clarita, Calif., begins in July, the piece notes.

“Based on the Mexican format by Miguel Angel Fox, the series centers on a young woman’s life after she is diagnosed with a terminal illness. Italia Ricci, soap veteran Mary Page Keller, Aisha Dee, Richard Brancatisano, Haley Ramm and Abhi Sinha are among the cast,” THR reports.

Aaron Kaplan of “Terra Nova” will executive produce, with Susanna Fogel and Joni Lefkowitz, who penned the pilot, also executive producing. The series comes from Lionsgate and Televisa.

The report adds: “ABC Family, which is gearing up for a busy summer with eight scripted and unscripted series on the schedule, still has yet to make an official decision on ‘Bunheads’ and ‘The Lying Game,’ opting to wait until after its summer offerings premiere.”
